Fresh Paint Looks Great!

Before I get into how great it was to see the car after nearly a year with the front fenders and hood on again, and with a nice looking paint job, I should mention some lessons learned about getting paint done. First, Whatever the paint guy tells you about how long it will take to get the job done, make sure you double it at least. This job was supposed to take 1 month, and ended up taking 9 months. Second, make sure that you have everything that they are supposed to do in writing. And don't bother giving them detailed instructions on how to put things together. They never remember anything. That said, they did do a nice job on the paint!!!
The original paint on the car was a baked on enamel, very durable, and better than any of the current primers available for bonding to metal. I had planned on stripping the car to bare metal, but the paint shop recommended sanding down the original paint and using it as a base for new primer. They claim that the old paint is the best primer available. We will see.
None of the original paints which were used are still available, or legal so replacement paint and techniques were required. They used PPG, brand base and clear. A couple coats of color was shot first, then three to four coats of clear. The clear is then sanded with 1000 - 2000 grit sandpaper and buffed out with compound and wax. The end result is better than what the car had originally.
Not much to say, just nice clean paint.
More paint pics, can't wait to see it with chrome.
Up on the truck ready to go home. Actually home changed while the car was at the paint shop, we moved to a house with a 3 car garage in Redwood City, the tow was 45 miles, cost about $200.

Putting it back together!
